Canadian sawmills gain market share in Japan
A recent report from analysis company Woodstat shows that Japan imported a total of 509,000 m³ of softwood lumber in July (-2.9% compared to 2017). The import during January-July totaled 3.53 million m³ (-3.0%) according to figures from the Japanese Customs. The trend line for the Japanese softwood lumber import levels off.
Japan decreased the import of softwood lumber from Europe by 8% and from Canada by only 1%.

The trend line for the European exporters market share in Japan is decreasing from a very high level and the trend for the North American share is increasing from a very low level.
