The Russian export of softwood lumber continues to rise. Russia exported a total of two million cubic meters of softwood lumber in March. China dominates as a receiver of Russian lumber and the Russian market share is increasing fast due to the weakening of the Ruble. The market share in March was 47 percent. Meanwhile Canadas market share in China is falling. Also in other markets i.e. South Korea and Egypt the market shares for Russia are increasing. Obviously the weakening Ruble helps the Russian exporters also in these markets.
"The current increase in lumber export is in line with Vladimir Putin's statement last year when he said that Russia would refine more raw materials in the country", says Jenny Wessung, CEO Woodstat.
